A tiny, high, cool region in the folds of the Great Caucasus — Georgia's smallest classic wine zone, and among its most prized. Racha is famous for Khvanchkara, the naturally semi-sweet red of Aleksandrouli and Mujuretuli said to have been Stalin's wine; neighbouring Lechkhumi makes the semi-sweet white Tvishi from late-picked Tsolikouri. That same grape, fermented dry, is increasingly bottled as a crisp mountain white in its own right.
