Privacy
No cookies, no accounts, no third-party requests, and page-view counting that never records who you are.
Vinistory does not know who you are, and is built so that it cannot find out.
This site is a set of static files. It sets no cookies, has no accounts, no comments and no newsletter, and loads nothing from any other domain — no fonts, no maps, no video players, no social widgets, no tracking pixels. Opening a page here sends no data to anyone but the server serving it. You can check: read the page source, or watch your browser's network tab.
Which means there is no consent banner, because there is nothing to consent to.
We do count page views
We want to know which articles are read and which are ignored. So the web server keeps a line per page view, and every night those lines are added up into counts — how many views, per day, per page, per referring site, per country, per browser language — and the underlying lines are deleted.
What that line contains is the whole point:

There is no identifier of any kind, so two visits by you and one visit each by two strangers are indistinguishable to us. Requests for images, styles and data files are not logged at all. Bots are filtered out and discarded. The counts that survive are just numbers, and they are what we keep.
The legal basis is legitimate interest: knowing what is read is how the site gets written.
What passes through anyway
Traffic reaches us through Cloudflare, which provides DNS and shields the origin server, and the site is hosted on a machine we rent in Finland from Hetzner Online GmbH. Cloudflare necessarily sees your IP address — that is how a page is delivered to you at all — and processes it and request metadata as our processor, under its own data-processing terms. We do not receive it from them, and we do not store it.
Links off the site
Articles link to sources, archives and libraries elsewhere. Once you follow one you are on someone else's site, under their rules, not ours.
Your rights
Under the GDPR you may ask for access to, correction of, or erasure of personal data concerning you, and you may object to its processing.
We will answer honestly, and the honest answer is usually that we hold nothing to give you: without an IP address or any identifier there is no way for us to find "your" data, because nothing in what we keep is tied to you. For the IP address Cloudflare handles, their own privacy terms apply.

Changes
If this ever stops being true — if the site gains a newsletter, say, or if anything starts recording an identifier — this page changes first, and the date below changes with it.
