France's only appellation for rosé alone, Tavel makes a pink wine like no other — deep in colour, dry, full-bodied and structured, a wine for the table rather than the sun-lounger. Grenache leads a southern blend on the sandy, pebbly soils across the Rhône from Châteauneuf.

Louis XIV is said to have called it his favourite wine, and it was the serious rosé of France long before pale Provence took over the market. Tavel remains gastronomic rosé at its most convincing — proof that pink wine can have real weight and depth.
