The Jura makes a great deal of traditional-method sparkling wine, and much of it is very good — Crémant du Jura, based on Chardonnay with Pinot Noir, offers Champagne's method and something close to its finesse at a fraction of the price. Fresh, fine and appley, with a genuine biscuity depth from lees-ageing, it is one of France's best-value fizzes.

A quiet mainstay of the region's economy, it rarely gets the attention of the Jura's exotic Savagnin and Vin Jaune — but glass for glass it is one of the most reliable sparkling wines in the country.
